We Are Marshall is a very tragic movies about the most horrific sports event in American history. I had significant questions how much of the story would be embellished and if the movie would focus on the people not necessarily the football team.

First, the movie does follow the historical accuracies of the accident and aftermath with a few small liberaties taken about the recruiting of the Marshall players, and the visit at WVU seen in the movie.

Second, it focuses on how the human spirit can go from absolute despair to hope.  The Huntington community, home of the university, goes through a period of dispair but the hope that perserverance can come from any situation.

You will not find a fairytale ending with this movie because the issues of suicude, grief, family disruptions are all discussed. In addition to that, this movie also focuses how people survive through this. The acting in the movie is solid, not great. But the director did interjection the locals and the apparent mood during this time. If you see movie be prepared for tears, very moving.
